Our Commitment
PWSGUIDE.com is committed to making this Site usable by as many people as possible, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA.
What We've Built
This Site includes built-in accessibility controls, including:
- Adjustable text sizing
- High contrast mode
- Grayscale mode
- Color inversion
- Link highlighting
- A readable font option
- Animation pause control
- An enlarged cursor option
These settings are saved locally on your device and do not require an account.
Digital Audit & Testing Methodology
We conduct regular manual audits of our templates, color contrast, and interface components. Our most recent manual review was performed in July 2026. Testing methodologies included:
- Keyboard-Only Navigation: We verified that all menus, links, form inputs, and buttons are fully navigable without a pointer device. Tab focus outlines are visible, and tab indexes are configured sequentially.
- Contrast Compliance: Checked standard text colors against WCAG AA standards using luminance meters to confirm a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 (and 3:1 for large text).
Known Screen-Reader Exceptions & Alternatives
While we strive for complete compliance, certain interactive components have known limitations for screen-reader users. We provide clear, accessible alternatives for these features:
- Interactive Map Canvas (MapLibreGL): The vector maps layer rendered in the browser canvas is not directly readable by screen readers. Alternative: Detailed tabular listings and semantic text descriptions of all anchorages and routes are provided on the Anchorages Index and Routes Index.
- Live NOAA Graphs & Telemetry: Tide height charts and meteorological graphs can be difficult to interpret using synthetic speech. Alternative: All live telemetry widgets include a semantic text table detailing tide heights, predictions, trends, and wind speeds in a layout easily parsed by screen readers.
