Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel
The 2.5-mile combined rail/road tunnel is the only road access to Whittier. It operates on an alternating schedule utilizing strict 15-minute opening travel windows. Missing the window will delay your arrival or departure by an hour or more. Plan accordingly.

The tunnel alternates Portage-to-Whittier and Whittier-to-Portage traffic hourly/half-hourly on a strict seasonal schedule. Because train transits, DOT maintenance, and weather can disrupt openings, all mariners are strongly advised to check DOT's live status before arriving.
