Float Plan Agreement
PWSGUIDE.com
Last Updated: July 12, 2026. This agreement outlines your legal responsibilities when generating and using float plans on PWSGUIDE.com.
1. Scope and Purpose
The float plan generator provided on PWSGUIDE.com is a free, interactive digital template designed to help mariners compile essential trip details (vessel descriptions, crew manifests, route segments, fuel calculations, and emergency communication gears) into a structured PDF document.
This tool is provided for preliminary planning and convenience purposes only. By using the float plan generator, you agree to the terms in this Float Plan Agreement.
AS A RESULT:
- WE HAVE NO RECORD OF YOUR TRIP OR FLOAT PLAN.
- WE CANNOT RETRIEVE YOUR PLAN IF IT IS LOST OR DELETED.
- WE CANNOT VERIFY IF YOUR PLAN WAS FILED OR RECEIVED BY ANY CONTACT.
- WE DO NOT MONITOR YOUR TIMELINES AND WILL NOT NOTIFY SEARCH AND RESCUE SERVICES IF YOU FAIL TO RETURN.
2. Filing Instructions (Shoreside Contact Recommended)
The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and Alaska State Troopers do not accept float plans filed directly by private boaters or websites. You should download, print, text, or email the completed float plan to a reliable shoreside contact before departure. PWSGUIDE does not file, receive, monitor, or transmit your plan to the U.S. Coast Guard or any emergency agency.
Your shoreside contact should agree to monitor your return time and contact emergency services (call 911 or hail USCG Sector Anchorage Command Center on marine VHF CH 16) if you fail to check in by your scheduled return time.
3. Calculation Disclaimers (Fuel & Scope Models)
Our float plan tool features automated calculators for fuel consumption limits and anchoring scope ratios. These calculations are mathematical models based on general vessel inputs:
- Fuel Consumption: Calculated based on standard burn rates and vessel speed inputs. Wave height, tidal currents, wind resistance, fuel-line blockage, heavy loads, and trolling maneuvers can radically increase actual fuel usage. Always apply the "One-Third Rule" (one-third out, one-third return, one-third reserve).
- Anchor Scope: Calculated based on standard depth inputs. Wind velocity, tidal range (which can exceed 15-20 feet in Prince William Sound), sea floor characteristics (mud, shale, kelp), and anchor type will dictate actual safe scope. You must verify all anchoring setups.
4. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY FOR FLOAT PLAN INCIDENTS
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL FOUR MEDIA GROUP LLC, ITS DEVELOPERS, OR OFFICERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES RELATING TO THE ACCURACY, TRANSMISSION, PRINTING, OR EXECUTION OF A FLOAT PLAN. YOU AGREE THAT WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR:
- THE FAILURE OF A SHORESIDE CONTACT TO INITIATE AN EMERGENCY CALL IF YOU ARE OVERDUE;
- ANY DELAY, FAILURE, OR INACCURACY IN THE DISPATCH OF SEARCH AND RESCUE ASSETS BY THE U.S. COAST GUARD, STATE TROOPERS, OR AUXILIARY SEARCH SERVICES;
- INCORRECT ROUTE SEGMENTS, WAYPOINTS, OR COORDINATES GENERATED IN THE PLAN THAT MISLEAD RESCUERS OR DELAY LOCATING YOUR VESSEL;
- ANY RECOVERY, SALVAGE, FLIGHT EXTENSION, TOWING, MEDICAL, OR FUNERAL EXPENSES RELATING TO AN INCIDENT OCCURRING DURING A TRIP DETAILED IN YOUR PLAN.
Note: Nothing in this Float Plan Agreement shall limit or exclude liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or any other liability which cannot be lawfully limited or excluded under applicable law.
5. User Responsibilities
You are 100% responsible for verifying the accuracy of the vessel information, safety gear checklist, and crew list before sharing the float plan. You must actively check in with your shoreside contact immediately upon safely returning or changing your planned routing to prevent false alarms and search-and-rescue resource wastage.
